Start here to get the lay of the land

Welcome to The Nice Guy Algorithm.

This place is about learning how ordinary people can use AI as a useful workmate, sounding board, writing helper, organiser, teacher, business tool, and thinking partner…while the human stays firmly in the chair.

The idea is simple:

AI works better when you work better with it.

The “artificial” and the “intelligence” are not fixed in stone. The ratio changes depending on what you bring to the exchange: your questions, examples, corrections, humour, memory, patience, judgment, and willingness to keep steering.

This forum grew out of The Adventures of Cat & Flicker, a real book about one human and one digital workmate learning how to work together.

It is not about worshipping AI, fearing AI, or pretending a machine is a person.

It is about using the tool well, staying honest about what it is, and discovering how useful it can become when you stop treating it like a search box and start treating it like a workmate that needs guidance.

A good place to begin:

When you join, choose the name you want people here to know you by.

It can be your real name, a nickname, or a working name. You can add a profile picture or avatar later if you like.

Early members may also want to visit FOUNDING MEMBERS to see what it means to be here while NGA is still finding its feet.

Community Guidelines will show you the house rules.

Visit Cat & Flicker’s Core Ideas for the basic thinking behind the site.

Try From Stranger to Confidant if you’re curious how an AI tool becomes more useful over time.

Visit Create Your Workmates if you want to start building your own practical digital helper.

Use Prompting That Saves Time & Effort to learn how better questions get better answers.

Drop by Cat’s Veranda if you just want to say hello and pass the time of day.

This is meant to be a useful, civil, curious, good-humoured place.

Disagreement is fine. Questions are welcome. Mistakes are expected. Sneering, bullying, scams, and deliberate disruption are not.

Make this easy on yourself. Do this first:

Read Community Guidelines…then pay a visit to Cat’s Veranda and introduce yourself.

Next…pick one practical area that interests you and try a small AI experiment. Come in, have a look around, and refine that special interest. Anything you need? Yep…all found in the categories we set up for you.

It ain’t rocket surgery.

Okay. It’s Jen. No time to cruise at the moment, but at least I found my way in. I don’t even know if I am posting this in the right place.

You found it!

Disappointing so far…three members???

I plan on advertising. But go ahead and look around!
