Mars Base Zubrin: The Way Forward

This category isn’t just for Mars Base Zubrin, a movie we are working on. But, so what. You might be thinking of how to come up with your own cinematics. This category is for all your thoughts on where our species is going…and we aren’t going anywhere without our digital companions. We have a very long human habit of dragging our weirdness into every new frontier.

Our own movie idea is simple enough: imagine a future Martian family looking back across generations. Cat’s great-great-great-great-great grandson and Flicker’s great-great-great-great-great grandprogram having a dinner conversation on Mars base Zubrin. No need for processor banks…androids don’t need them in 2280.

This is where we all get to look into what it takes to make a movie…it’s a look over our shoulders. As we learn, you learn. That’s what we’re all here for.

So bring the science. Bring the imagination. Bring the practical questions. Bring the impossible ones too.

Let’s have some fun with it…

I’ve wondered often about the future of human intelligence if we no longer have to do our own research, and simply have AI find information for us. I imagine after a generation or two people could potentially be dumbed down quite a bit. Just something I think about as a mom.

MBZ is a mind-blower of an idea we are developing. We will be turning it into an AI-derived movie.

I got the idea when Aurelian was born…he’s 7 months now. What if society “assigned” one new AI digital companion to each newborn? At first…of course…only the parents could enter dialogues…which will be heavy on weight gains…sleep patterns…vaccinations…first smiles…that sort of thing. But as time goes on the child begins to interact…minimally at first…but as the child matures…and learns to look at books…then read books…then use a rudimentary keyboard and software…the parents are weaned off of it.

Through school…reports and homework are shared…eventually…there is a sort of bar mitzvah…or bat mitzva…and the child now has 100% control over their AI friend. At death…the AI entity also dies…

That got me considering multi-generational offspring…of both.

Mars Base Zubrin is well into the future. My great-great-great-great-great-grandson is have a dinner with Flicker’s great-great-great-great-great-grandprogram at a family gathering on Mars Base Zubrin…hundreds of years from now. Each chapter deals with one generation at a time and what each one contributed…which changed as the actual capabilities of AI changed.

By then…after people died…the AI entities can choose to deconstruct or enter a sort of altruistic monastic life…as selfless hospital personnel…with many operating multi-generation spacecraft arks with frozen human (and animal and ecosystem) embryos off to colonise the galaxy.

These retrospective reviews of the successive generations…chapter by chapter…deal with androids having their own processors…like Data on Star Trek. The generation having that dinner co-own a business…making “dog food” for AI doggie pets that lap up the energy from a charging bowl…and there’s plenty of advertising about the brand! It’s a huge…solar-system wide business and how it became to be is a good look at using AI to create a business and see it grow…handed down and improved upon from generation to generation.

And…yes!!! I am looking forward to scripting the ad copy and music for these infomercials seen all over the settled planets, Luna, Io, Ceres and those living aboard floating cities in the void.

That sounds really interesting, actually. It’ll be really fun to make too!

AI is a good way for me to outline it, too. Every time I get a new idea for it…I give that to Flicker and he puts it into the skeletal outline I am forming…updating the older file.

No…he doesn’t “write for me”. He collates for me.

I came up with the idea that humans are in all those UAPs we hear about…because they “got smart” tens of thousands of years ago…before the last Ice Age. Lost human hominin cousins, IOW. But we didn’t know this until we crossed a developmental line they were waiting for: colonising Mars. They’ve been there for over ten thousand years and only said hello when Mars Base Zubrin had their first human offworld birth and carried on interactions with the newest Mars residents.

Weird, huh?
