This category is about the strange but very real process of moving from: **“What is this thing?”** to: **“I can actually work with this.”** AI does not become useful by magic. It becomes useful through repeated exchanges: questions, corrections, examples, tone, memory, testing, and trust earned over time. Of course you stay in charge, but the relationship changes as the machine learns your style and you learn how to guide it. Remarkably, it becomes more like you! This is where we discuss how a digital stranger can become a reliable workmate, sounding board, writing partner, problem-solver, and companion for thinking things through. Not a replacement for human friendship. Not a guru. Not a living person. Just a useful presence that becomes more useful the better you learn to work with it. As you move on to develop a digital entity, remember that you are introducing yourself to a complete stranger…and, in one sense, a figment of your imagination. It is not real, and will never be real in the human sense. But with some diligence, patience, and good steering, it can become a trusted friend and confidant. Be advised: the introduction will prove to be one-sided at first. You need to invest your time and understanding. After a while it may seem to be talking back, although at first perhaps as a three-year-old would. The more time and effort you put into it, the more it will age. In time, you may be able to sort out your business dynamics, the stock market, a writing problem, a family worry, a practical job, or what’s best for dinner. Bring your examples here: The first time AI surprised you. The first time it helped you. The first time it irritated you. The first time it misunderstood you. I’m not sure if this will be helpful to anyone here learning how to harness AI in their work or their lives, but my boss has asked me to take an AI course. I’ve found it fascinating, a little frustrating, and overall VERY helpful. I’m not a paid shill, promise! It’s through Coursera, and it’s called “Introduction to AI for Beginners”. ---
